FPS dips on approach
« on: March 26, 2014, 02:04:06 AM »
Scenery seems very well done. On approach I get FPS comparable to other good products (eg. FSDTs CYVR) - in the low to high 20s (FPS locked at 30).

However, on approach and final it will dip to single digits 2 or 3 times before it comes back to normal.

While this is not really a biggie on takeoff it is a big problem on final. Aircraft cannot be controlled and sometimes the AP will disengage.

Too many objects being read into memory at the same time ?
Is some object visibility maintenance in order ?
Anybody else having a similar issue ?

Thanks

Thanks

Hi

When exactly happens the dropdown?
Which rwy in what distance?

The objects are optimized in terms of appearing. Not every object appears at the same time, and a lot of obejct has LOD. So it should not happen.

Approaching 31 L from about 8 miles out. The drops were so short that half of those dips that you see were actually lower than indicated. Most were under 10 FPS and a few went as low as 3 or 4 FPS.

By contrast, same scenario with Aerosoft's Mega LHBP varies between 17 and 21.

Hi

Could you please tell me your PC spec. Are we talking about Prepar3D or FSX? Sorry maybe I missed if you wrote already.

I have a much older PC but never experienced this.

Maybe we should somehow exclude some objects to see which one is causing the trouble. My first hunch is the animations.

If you go to [FSX root]\SimObjects\Misc\LHBP_ObjectPlacer\ you can find a lot of model. folder. There are 2 folders with animations, if you rename the containing mdl-s to something else the animations should dissappear than you could try the result.

Ok. Thanks. Will try that.

Having said that, V13 seems to have improved performance. Here is a comparison :

Still some dips at the same places. But average FPS jumped from 18 to 22.

Will report back on the models.

OK. With BOTH animations disabled average FPS jumped to 24. Better performance. But the dips remain - this time they are much more manageable. What am I losing with animations disabled ?

Thanks

Just tested in P3DV2.

Smooth !

Perfect !

I read somewhere that this product was only tested under P3D.....guess I don't need to say more.

As I don't plan to use P3DV2 before all Orbx products are compatible it would be a shame that I could not use LHBP in FSX  :(

Thanks for the support so far folks. I appreciate the effort..

Hi!

With the animations you loose the apron traffic (cars, buses, baggage carts). But as I can see the dips are still there but the overall performance is better, so in my opinion this is not the issue.

The scenery was built on FSX SP2, not on P3Dv2.

Shame I can't use this...so pretty... :( :( :(

Guess I will enjoy it when I switch to P3DV2 sometime in the next year..

Did two more tests :

Disabled LHS-LHBP and AES
Enabled AES but left LHS-LHBP off

Results clearly indicate the scenery is NOT the culprit. In fact, they illustrate how optimized it is. Average FPS drops by a mere 0.5 FPS. Well done guys !!

I think I will take this discussion to the Orbx forums  :)

If anybody can think of anything please let me know.

Thanks

Turning off FTX Global Vector improves things dramatically.
